Voice Talent

about shelly

Shelly’s voice has a great bass quality, commanding yet not overpowering. —Audio Engineer

Shelly Sherman, voice

Blessed with a voice characterized by a Chicago audio engineer as “Older… a spokesman who has been around and knows a thing or two. A voice belonging to someone who makes you feel comfortable and at ease,” Shelly Sherman delivers a message with a timbre rarely heard in voice today.

Whether the voice is stand-alone audio that puts the challenge of spurring listeners to take action strictly on the voice talent or is a companion to visual effects, Mr. Sherman’s unique sound will bring credibility and sales to the sponsors who engage him.

You’ll want to hear Mr. Sherman’s approach for yourself, of course. Listen in below.

More than a Voice

In the best situations, there’s more than just a voice to the voice you hire. Shelly Sherman, for example, has been a part of CRIS radio since 1988.

CRIS Radio (Chicagoland Radio Information Service) provides daily reads of newspapers and other periodicals — news stories, classified listings and sales circulars — for vision-impaired listeners and others with a wide range of disabilities. Shelly Sherman has been a volunteer reader at CRIS for 29 years, reading news items, magazine articles and books.

CRIS Radio is a service of The Chicago Lighthouse, a world-renowned social service organization that serves the blind, visually impaired, disabled and Veteran communities.

In addition, Mr. Sherman is a long-time volunteer reader for clients of Blind Service Association Inc., an endeavor he has been part of since the late 1980s. BSA clients bring their own materials to be read — typically textbooks, legal transcripts, recipes, novels and mail.

Of course, voice matters in our profession. So does the individual with the voice.

Ultimately, your decision that Shelly Sherman’s voice is the one which best fits your voiceover needs depends less on what we say on this website and more on what you hear when you listen to Shelly.

The best place to hear Shelly is during an audition, but the samples that follow will work almost as well.

Shelly Sherman’s voice career began in the late 1980s, when he started recording news items and other material for CRIS Radio and, at about the same time, began recording material for Blind Services Association Inc. — activities he continues today. His voice qualifications expanded significantly in 1994, when he was selected as a United Airlines employee to provide narrative for the airline’s 727 display at Chicago’s Museum of Science and Industry. So positive was the response that Mr. Sherman was called upon to provide voice services for such diverse United assignments as the company’s annual stockholder meeting; several human resources programs; and related United training and safety videos. With that voice history, it perhaps is not surprising that narration of sometimes complex topics is one of Mr. Sherman’s strong abilities. Now retired from the airline industry, and with a voice he rather proudly describes as “mature male, one who inspires trust,” Shelly Sherman can be reached for assignments or auditions at 630.607.9000 or through the Contact process on this website.

Voiceover Testimonials

Voiceover assignments that are 30- and 60- second spots; training film narration; product introductions; or the reading of books, news items from Chicago area newspapers, sports articles and the classifieds for CRIS Radio, the desired results require both an interpretive and vocal flexibility few voice professionals have.
